FOUNDED ON A ROCK.

GAMMA PHI BETA WAS FOUNDED ON NOVEMBER 11, 1874.

Gamma Phi Beta is an international Sorority with more than 215,000 members worldwide.  There are more than 180 chartered collegiate chapters in the United States and Canada and there are alumnae chapters across North America.  Gamma Phi was founded to, "develop a higher spiritual, mental and social culture."  Those principles and the standards they represent are still relevant for today's members.

PI CHAPTER OF GAMMA PHI BETA WAS FOUNDED IN 1914.

Since the rock is the firmest and most enduring substance, able to withstand the ravages of time, and offering the strongest protection, it seemed fitting that Gamma Phi Beta should be thus founded.
— Founder E. Adeline Curtis (Syracuse, 1874)

FAMILY EVENTS

We would not be the women we are without the parents and families that support us. Sharing our sisterhood with our families through different events is always a highlight of our collegiate years. It is a tradition to have a Dad's Day and Mom's Day each year. We look forward to inviting our families to these events and showing them a glimpse of our special sisterhood. At these annual events each senior class shows their gratitude by writing and sharing a speech about their parent(s). For Mom’s Day this year we did yoga and had Foundry Coffee and for Dad’s Day we hosted a Husker football watch party in the Haymarket. Other events focused on family include the annual tea party or auction brunch. We are so thankful for the love and support of our families.

PARENT’S CLUB

The Parent’s Club is an important and appreciated part of our organization. The club coordinates a silent auction brunch to fundraise for the annual Winter Formal dinner for members. Parents can help at the dinner or assist in decorating the chapter house for Christmas each year. Please contact Mary Kenes at pichapterparents@gmail.com with any questions on how to get involved with Parent's Club.

A LETTER FROM AN ALUMNA

When I reflect back on the years I have been involved with Gamma Phi Beta, I feel truly blessed to be part of such an extraordinary organization and an amazing group of women.   I recall going through recruitment and feeling like Gamma Phi Beta was home.  It felt comfortable. It felt right. The women I talked with were down to earth and very genuine.  I knew right away that this is were I belonged.  These women truly valued me for who I was and brought out the best in me.  My sisters sincerely cared and helped me to become the best person I could be.  Although I was attending a large university, it was comforting to know that I had sisters supporting me with my different endeavors and really were my family.

As I look back, there are countless sisters I am thankful for and I recall many fond memories.  I remember the fun time of sharing the only 4 man room at the top of the stairs on the third floor ~ there were a lot of great talks and sisterhood shared between those four walls.  I recall doing “phone duty” back in the 1900’s when cell phones were not prevalent.  The person on phone duty would answer the house phone and page their sister when they got a call, or answer the door and page that their sister had a “guest” in the foyer if it was a boy or “visitor” if it was a girl.  I think back on the Friday nights of watching a movie with our house Mom, studying in the chapter room for a big test, Mom’s Day and Dad’s Day ~ these are all memories that I treasure.

Fast forward now to the present.  I have 2 daughters and from the time they could walk, my husband (who I met through a dear G Phi sister) and I would take our girls to a Husker football game every year. As part of our football day tradition, we would always stop by the Gamma Phi Beta house for a visit.  I had high hopes that they could someday experience the love of Gamma Phi Beta that I did. My dream came true ~ I am thankful to share this bond of sisterhood with my oldest daughter, Brooke (a junior) and my younger daughter, Isabelle (a freshman). Brooke and Isabelle are not only my daughters, but also now my sisters through Gamma Phi Beta. Many things have changed since the time I lived at the 415, but the core values of Gamma Phi Beta have stayed strong.
